Hey what's up guys and gals? Today was labor day and I took it pretty easy today. I had planned on running this evening but ended up being lazy today instead......which is okay sometimes. The main thing is that I did very well on my portion control.
I started out this morning again with a breakfast burrito. I am really digging the breakfast burrito for two reasons.....1....because it tastes really good!......and 2....because it stays with me a lot longer than say some cereal. There is nothing wrong with cereal but I would probably want to eat something again pretty soon.
For lunch I had a tuna sandwich. I am really enjoying eating the smaller portions and taking it slow because I can actually taste the food. I am still learning how to react to this new lifestyle. I have experienced more taste these last two days than probably the last few weeks combined. It is amazing all the flavors God has put on this planet and how enjoyable they are if we take the time to slow things down and not go overboard with them. If you take something like Pizza for example which tastes really good, but you eat like 4-6 slices and eat them fast, you have most likely not gotten a chance to enjoy the flavor and before you know it, you are not feeling good because you are stuffed.
I can't tell you how many times I have felt so terrible after overeating.....and even though I know how bad I will feel I am still even now tempted to over eat. It is almost funny how much sense that doesn't make. How can it be that something that will make me feel miserable to my stomach and also make me feel miserable at the way I will feel about myself be tempting? I am reading a book called "The end of overeating" and it talks a lot about the things I have been through and why I am drawn to things even though I already know the outcome if I do them. There are so many factors involved, habits, dopamine, memory triggers, etc that play a part.
It takes a lot to break the cycle. Different things work for different people. I for one have tried so many different things but I have to say, this blog has already helped me a ton. I know it is going to take a while for me to get into the shape I want to be in, and it is also going to take a while for me to get into the habit of portion control. The problem with portion control is that it takes a conscious effort. You have to actually pay attention to everything you put into your mouth. This is a problem in the U.S. because we move so fast and do not think about half of the stuff we eat.
I went to the store today and actually came back with a lot of junk food.....sugary cereal, pop tarts, cookies, little debbie cakes, ice cream........now I know what y'all are thinking....heck yes! No, I know y'all are probably thinking this guy is not going to last too long on his journey, but in all fairness I am working on portion control and not how few of calories I can eat. Now I know if you consume more calories than you burn you will gain weight so I am not being stupid about it. But at the same time, I am trying to lead a normal life which includes all of the goodies, but instead of 4 scoops of ice cream I will have a half a scoop.
Now I did get some other stuff at the store (I am not going to give you the entire grocery list) so for dinner I had a hot pocket and like 6 chips. This kept me full until about an hour or so ago and I had a little peanut butter. It is currently 12:44am...technically already into day 7. I have not let you guys know what I have been drinking so here it goes.....I have been drinking water, splenda tea and some diet soda here and there. Okay I am getting kind of random and it is getting late so I am peacing out for the day. No video for today...I know y'all are disappointed but that is life. :-) See y'all tomorrow!
